The Department of Adventure – Publishing Services

Our Imprint

The Department of Adventure™ is a publishing house built for one kind of story: adventure and travel, told by people who actually lived it. But “publisher” doesn’t mean just one thing here — we work two different ways, depending on the project.

For a select few books each year, we’re the publisher outright. We call these our imprint titles: we fund the entire process ourselves — editorial, design, production, and launch — because we believe in the story enough to invest in it directly, start to finish.

For every other project, we work as your publishing team rather than your publisher: the same expertise and standards, built around your budget and your timeline instead of ours.

Either way, the outcome is the same — a real story, out of a notebook and into an actual, finished book. That’s why there are two ways to work with us.

Our Imprint Philosophy

We read every idea that comes to us, all the way through. When a project feels like the right fit for what we can take on and fund ourselves, that’s when we say yes to publishing it as our own: no cost to the author, and we invest in it, start to finish.

Not every idea is the right fit for that path, and that’s never a reflection on the story. When it isn’t, we’re just as glad to help make the book real through our publishing services instead — same expertise, same standards, just a different way of getting there.

How It Works

1. Tell us your Idea

Fill out the form below. Doesn’t need to be polished — just tell us what you’ve got.

2. We Talk It Through

A real conversation with a real person, to understand your story and what it needs.

3. We Build a Plan

A clear breakdown of what we recommend, what it costs, and the timeline. No surprises.

4. We Get to Work

From first edit to final print, we’re with you the whole way.

Submit Your Idea

Have a story you think belongs in our imprint? Tell us about your project below — there’s no wrong way to pitch us, and no idea is too early to share. Still just weighing your options, or have a general question first? Our Contact page is a great place to start instead.

The more detail you give us, the better we can understand your project. Tell us the story, where it happened, and why it deserves to be a book.
